Thank You to Blood Drive Donors

Hi Everyone - Thought I'd share a couple of little thank you(s) I created for those who donated blood at our Kaiser/Dole facilities.  A few of our employees volunteer to donate blood and I used to make these for them until I discovered that they weren't always receiving them.  This first one is a "sour cream" container with 'danglies'.  I always made them in red and attempted to do the tags in the shape of a blood drop.

If anyone would like to know how to create this cute favor, that only measures 3-1/2" long, email me and I'd be happy to share the details with you.  Of course, the combinations are limitless!!

Cross in a Box

Aloha All!
I've been working really hard on a number of items for various events and also have applied for a patent on this one and hope to have these available for purchase soon.  At the end of this year, I want to be able to say that I've truly tried to do as the bible says, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."  Mark 16:15.  I'm not a preacher but at least I can do my part to quietly and gently share His love by using the ideas and passion I have for creating with paper.  I believe that even something as small as this could be a wonderful reminder of God's love for us.

I sent this pink and black one to my best friend Charlene.... just because.  She is always, always there for me.. listening to me, encouraging me, driving me to doctor appointments, sending me cards.  God has totally blessed me with her friendship.
In these pictures you can see what it looks like when you first take the cover off, looking down into the gift and then as it unfolds to reveal the encouraging words and the  mini cross that barely stands 2" high.

 AND
A dear friend from my office has gone through a very challenging past year with advanced cancer and is still going through treatments.  I've sent her cards along the way but just last week made her a Cross in a Box in shades of peach.  The closed box measures only 3"x3" but opened flat it measures 9"x9".  I hope it blesses her as much as it blessed me to create it for her as I thought of her courage, her cheerfulness despite everything and her beautiful smile.

Thank you for stopping by!
Hugs and Blessings to All!

Hospital Ministry Ideas

Thought I'd share a few samples of 3 items I had created for a hospital ministry.  The Hawaiian plumeria is on the church programs so I thought I'd carry that through to the mini gift items I created for visitors to share with the  patients.  The flowers are punched out of white cardstock and the centers are simply dabbed with yellow ink.  I think they came out cute and look like Plumerias!!

The card on the left is an easel card that can fold flat with the candle sitting with the card in a clear gift bag.
The center gift is a mini-kleenex holder!!
The gift on the right is a 3x3 desk caddy and can hold a pad of post-it notes, candy, or even your keys!!

Fun and Cute Gift Boxes

Thought I'd share a few gift boxes I created over time:  The one on the left opens like a pizza box and measures 4x4x1.  The thank you message you see is at the bottom of the box but covered when candy or goodie is in it.  You would find the message after you enjoy the treats!   The one on the right unties and flips up - measuring 3x3x1.

This one, below, is an 'explosion box' with an oriental flare.  This is a 3" cube when folded into a box.
This one, below, opens like a pizza box (shown on right).  The top is created by using a border punch and simply punching on all four edges!  I repeated the same element on the inside cover.  Gives it a much more finished look.
The circle in the center can sit a mini flower pot or any round little gift.

and finally this super cute gray and pink box, 2x2x1 with a floral punch out for see through with acetate for nice finish.  I added flowers and leaves and bling!  Gotta have flowers and bling!!  The message you're seeing is inside the box and would be under candy or goodies!
This box is a 'matchbox' type.  the inside box slides out of the sides.  Sooo Cute !!

Purple Circles Centerpiece

Sharing a centerpiece I created a while back for a retirement luncheon.  It stands 9" high, created with circles, folded with a triangle in each and glued together with accents of pearls.  I LOVE pearls!  The ball of circles sits on a dowel, that is secured in a styro foam ball imbedded in a small ceramic pot.  The photo on the right is a close up of the ball.
The favors, below left, were a mini ceramic vase, filled with candy, tied together with ribbon in two shade of purple and embellished with a tiny butterfly.  The photo on the right is just another idea that I had created as an option for the favors... a mini ball of paper flowers with the message, "Keep in Touch!".  I should have added that message to the one on the left... would have been a nice addition to the one they chose to use at the luncheon.

New flower punches to play with

Aloha Friends!
I went to a Ben Franklin demo today on how to use the McGill flower parts punches.  One of them is called 'starburst'.  Its used to create the center stamens of flowers.  The demonstration was on creating roses but they had several free handouts on using all the punches to create several different flowers.  I came straight home and started using the starburst to see how I could embellish flowers I already had created and I LOVE LOVE how these turned out.

These are the same flowers but each photo, above and below, shows a little different angel.  The effect of the pop up center is incredible.
It's hard to see the grey stamens in the pink flower but I think it adds the WOW! factor....
AND I added leaves which completes it even more!
Can you  believe the flowers are made from the same 5-petal punch??  The pink flower has 6 layers, crumpled and held together with a brad and the others have just 2 layers with curled petals, glued in opposite directions.
I love the dramatic look of the black and white.

Happy Retirement Paper Slot Machine

Aloha Friends!
Thought I'd share a favor I created for my sister's co-worker's retirement party.  Can you tell she loves Vegas???
I started with my own pattern created by measuring an ordinary school lunch milk carton and angled the top. It measures 4" high, 1-3/4" deep.  I hand cut each carton - yup, I think it was about 110 of them!
My sister, Jojo, found the cute card suit (spades, clubs, hearts) sprinkles at GBC and we hand glued each one on the computer generated squares.  I had to play around with the sizing of the squares by using text boxes within text boxes !!  Whew!  it took a while and many, many drafts.  Then I created a page full of them, printed on white cardstock and cut them out by hand.

This is a flat view of the slot machine before it is taped into shape.  Note that the handle can actually move!!
We used a toothpick, inserted into a brad and a gold bead glued to the end.
I used the slot punch from Stampin' Up to mimick the money drop and backed it with a piece of acetate so that the chocolate 'gold coins' would not fall out.
Jojo said everyone LOVED it and played with the handle as soon as they got it.
Some of her co-workers still have it sitting on their desks!

As soon as I figure out how to add paypal to this blog, I will be selling kits of the projects I post but
in the meantime, I would love to hear from you!

For those who wait on the Lord with renew their strength,
the will soar on wings of eagles,
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not faint.

Flowers, flowers, flowers

I'm addicted to making flowers.  I've not been well but making flowers lifts my spirits.  Isn't it amazing that can be done with paper?  Each 3D flower is so cute!!

Can someone tell me how to get better pictures from my Sanyo camera?  OR do I need a different camera?
